Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie accuses Lagos hospital of negligence

Renowned Nigerian author **Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has publicly accused a top private hospital in Lagos — Euracare — of medical negligence after the tragic death of her 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi.      She claims her son died due to an overdose of anesthetic (propofol) while undergoing routine tests.
Adichie’s legal team has served the hospital with demands for medical records and CCTV footage.
Euracare says it followed international care standards, while the Lagos government has launched an official investigation.
The case has revived a broader national debate about healthcare quality, underfunding, and medical safety in Nigeria.
The Lagos State Government has ordered an independent investigation — led by the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) in collaboration with regulatory bodies. Officials have promised transparency and legal consequences if negligence is proven.
Medical Community Engagement: The Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists has requested involvement in the probe, signaling the case’s broader professional and ethical implications.
