Nigerians Abroad Can Now Get NIN Without Returning Home

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that Nigerians living abroad can now obtain their National Identification Number (NIN) through accredited enrolment centres in other countries. The initiative is designed to make registration easier for citizens in the diaspora who previously had to travel back to Nigeria to complete the process.

According to officials, the new system allows applicants to submit their details and biometrics at approved international centres. This is expected to improve identity documentation and strengthen Nigeria’s national database.

Authorities say the move will also support services that require NIN, such as passport applications, banking verification and SIM card registration. It is part of the government’s broader digital identity programme aimed at capturing millions of Nigerians globally.
