NSCDC restates commitment to safeguarding national assets.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom State is committed to protecting the nation's critical assets and promoting environmental safety. Commandant Geraldine Abetianbe emphasized this at a thanksgiving service commemorating the 2026 International Civil Defence Day, themed "Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future".
Abetianbe urged citizens to take action against environmentally harmful practices, support government efforts to protect the environment, and adhere to Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) predictions to avoid tragic incidents. The NSCDC official also commended Akwa Ibom State government for desilting drainages in Uyo metropolis.
The Head of Operations, National Emergency Management Agency, Uyo Office, Aisueni Mmandu, warned residents about flood risks, citing NiMET's 2026 weather forecast listing Akwa Ibom as a flood-prone state. She advised against littering, improper waste disposal, and harmful agricultural practices.
