UNILAG Lecturers’ Strike Over Salary Dispute

Lecturers at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), recently declared an indefinite strike over the alleged non-payment of full salaries and allowances. The union said the action became necessary after lecturers received incomplete payments for January and February 2026.

However, the university management rejected the strike, stating that it did not follow the proper procedures required before embarking on industrial action. The institution also assured students that ongoing examinations would continue as scheduled despite the dispute.

Shortly after the strike began, the ASUU branch suspended the action and gave the university management a 48-hour window to resolve the salary issues through negotiations. The development has brought temporary relief to students who feared disruption of their academic calendar.
