"Christian Must Be Defended "- Netanyahu Targets Nigeria In New Israel Agenda
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has disclosed that Israel is developing a concrete agenda to support Christian communities in Nigeria, amid rising global concerns over alleged persecution of Christians.
Netanyahu made the statement during a meeting with evangelical leaders in Florida, where he positioned Israel as the only country capable of actively protecting Christian communities worldwide.
According to him, attacks against Christians form part of a wider global battle against what he described as the “Judeo-Christian tradition,” allegedly driven by radical Islamist movements.
“I see the battle against us and the battle against our Judeo-Christian tradition being waged across the globe,” Netanyahu said. “It’s led by radical Shiite Islam, headed by Iran, and radical Sunni Islam, driven by the Muslim Brotherhood.”
He specifically mentioned Nigeria among countries where Christians are facing persecution, alongside Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and parts of the Middle East.
“They go to Europe, they go to the United States, they go to Africa — Nigeria,” he said. “We are conscious of the fact that Christians are being persecuted.”
Netanyahu claimed Israel stands alone in actively defending Christian populations.
“One country protects the Christian community, enables it to grow, defends it and ensures it thrives — and that country is Israel. There is no other,” he declared.
The Israeli leader said his government is pushing for a coalition of nations committed to supporting “beleaguered Christian communities” around the world, with Nigeria listed as a key focus.
“In Africa, with intelligence. In the Middle East, with means I won’t itemize,” he added. “This is a main part of our agenda.”
His remarks came a day after he met with U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced air strikes in Nigeria on Christmas Day, citing alleged persecution of Christians as justification for the military action.
On the same day, Netanyahu also called for an immediate end to attacks on Christians in Nigeria.
