Global Geopolitics: The "Greenland Standoff"
Following a high-level meeting at the White House, Danish and Greenlandic officials expressed "fundamental disagreement" with the U.S. administration over President Trump’s renewed push to acquire Greenland.
Denmark's Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, stated that while they are open to discussing U.S. security concerns in the Arctic, the sovereignty of Greenland is a "red line."
President Trump reiterated that the territory is vital for U.S. national security, citing growing Russian and Chinese influence in the Arctic. He has suggested that NATO should facilitate the "takeover."
