Public outrage swept across the United States after President Donald Trump reposted a controversial AI-generated video that briefly depicted former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as monkeys. The video, shared on Trump’s social media platform, formed part of a longer conspiracy-themed montage promoting false claims about U.S. elections.

The imagery immediately triggered condemnation from civil rights organizations, political leaders, journalists, and social media users, who described the portrayal as racially offensive and deeply disturbing. Critics noted that depicting Black individuals as primates echoes long-standing racist tropes historically used to dehumanize people of African descent.

Several commentators argued that regardless of intent, the post crossed ethical and moral boundaries, especially given Trump’s influence as a sitting U.S. president. Supporters of Trump, however, dismissed the backlash as exaggerated, insisting the video was political satire taken out of context.

Major media outlets confirmed the authenticity of the repost, fueling renewed debates around racism, political responsibility, and the dangerous rise of AI-generated misinformation in global politics. The incident has further polarized America, raising urgent questions about the limits of political expression in the digital age.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government over reports that it approved a $9 million contract for lobbying services in the United States, describing the move as scandalous, indefensible and a reflection of misplaced priorities. In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said the Tinubu administration was more concerned with polishing its international image than addressing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship. The party said the expenditure was particularly troubling at a time when thousands of Nigerians have been killed by insecurity and millions are struggling to afford basic necessities. “The African Democratic Congress, ADC, condemns the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration for deploying scarce public resources to launder its battered image abroad instead of addressing the deepening security and economic crises at home,” ...
