Entertainment: Nollywood Actors Protest Over Pay

Several actors in Nigeria’s film industry have staged demonstrations in Lagos, calling for improved wages and better contractual agreements within the Nollywood sector. The protesters say many performers receive low pay despite the growing popularity of Nigerian films on streaming platforms. They are urging producers and distributors to adopt fair compensation structures.

Industry representatives say the protests reflect long-standing frustrations among actors and film workers who feel their contributions are undervalued. Some actors argue that the rapid growth of digital streaming services has increased revenues for producers while performers continue to struggle financially. They are demanding more transparent payment systems and royalty arrangements.

Producers and studio executives have acknowledged the concerns and promised to engage in dialogue with actors’ representatives. Stakeholders across the industry say negotiations are necessary to ensure a fair balance between production costs and actors’ welfare as Nollywood continues to expand globally.
