INEC Calls for Peaceful Campaigns Ahead of Osun Election

Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has urged political parties and candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns as political activities begin for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

INEC officials warned that electoral violence or hate speech could threaten the credibility of the election. The commission emphasized the need for all stakeholders—including political parties, supporters and security agencies—to maintain order during the campaign period.

The Osun election is expected to attract strong political competition, making it an important test for Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of future national elections.
