Police sack 4 officers over killing of 7 traders at Lagos market.
Four police officers have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force over their alleged involvement in the death of seven traders at Owode Onirin Market in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the sack during a media briefing at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ikeja on Thursday. According to him, the officers were part of a group brought into Lagos from Nasarawa State by the principal suspect identified as Hakim Abiodun Ariori, and were implicated in what he described as unlawful killings during a violent clash that occurred in August 2025.
The tragic incident took place amid a confrontation between traders and suspected land grabbers in the Owode Onirin area of the state. Initial reports indicated that five traders were shot dead on the spot, with two more dying later from injuries, bringing the total number of victims to seven.
Commissioner Jimoh stressed that the ongoing investigation into the incident was almost complete, with ballistic and autopsy reports guiding the prosecution process. He assured the public and families of the victims that the case would not be ignored and that justice would be served.
He said all suspects would be prosecuted in court, and that the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to upholding the law and protecting the lives and properties of citizens. Jimoh also urged residents and traders to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement authorities as the legal process continues.
