CHOOSING NEXT IRAN LEADER: "I must be personally involved, Khamenei's son not acceptable to me"-Donald Trump.
U.S President, Donald Trump has sparked global debate after declaring that he should be personally involved in determining Iran’s future leadership.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said he believes Washington must be involved in the process of selecting the next leader of Iran following the death of its long-time Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
“I have to be involved in the appointment,” Trump said, emphasizing that the outcome of Iran’s leadership transition could shape stability across the Middle East for years. He added that the United States should ensure that the next Iranian leader promotes peace and stability rather than continuing policies that fuel regional tensions.
Trump also rejected the idea that Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, should inherit the powerful position. “Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me,” Trump said, warning against what he described as a continuation of the same leadership approach.
“We want someone that will bring harmony and peace to Iran,” Trump said, arguing that a new direction in Tehran could reduce conflict and improve relations with the international community.
The remarks highlight Trump’s continued focus on reshaping U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Supporters say stronger involvement could prevent future conflict, while critics argue that leadership decisions inside Iran should remain the responsibility of the Iranian people.
