Oyo Residents Protest Rising Kidnapping and Banditry

Residents of a community in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State staged a protest over rising cases of kidnapping and banditry in their area. The demonstrators blocked the busy Ibadan–Oyo Expressway at the Jobele axis, causing heavy traffic and leaving many commuters stranded.

The protesters accused security authorities of not doing enough to protect communities from criminal attacks. Many residents said kidnappers and armed bandits have been operating frequently in nearby villages, creating fear among farmers, traders, and travellers.

Community leaders called on the federal and state governments to deploy more security personnel to the area. They warned that the protests may continue if urgent action is not taken to improve safety in the region.
