NOT ALL THOSE WHO SMILE WITH YOU ARE YOUR FRIENDS.

In a prosperous village, there lived a kind-hearted young farmer named Daniel. He was known for his generosity and warm spirit. Whenever his harvest was plentiful, he shared food with his neighbors and never hesitated to lend a helping hand.

Because of his kindness, Daniel was always surrounded by people. They laughed at his jokes, praised his success, and eagerly accepted his invitations. Seeing so many smiling faces around him, Daniel believed he was the luckiest man in the village. He often said, "I have more friends than I can count."

One year, Daniel's farm suffered a terrible drought. His crops withered, his savings dwindled, and he found himself struggling to provide even the basics. Suddenly, the people who once crowded his home became difficult to find.

Those who had once praised him were now too busy to visit. Some avoided him in the marketplace. Others whispered that perhaps he had become careless or lazy. Their smiles disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.

Feeling hurt and confused, Daniel sought the wisdom of an elderly gardener who lived at the edge of the village.

The old man handed him two baskets. One was filled with fresh fruit, and the other was empty.

"Walk through the village with the basket of fruit," the old man said.

Daniel did as he was told. People greeted him warmly, offered him compliments, and eagerly gathered around him. The next day, he carried only the empty basket. Most of the same people walked past without a word.

The gardener smiled gently and said, "The fruit attracted many hands, but not many hearts. True friends are those who walk beside you even when your basket is empty."

Daniel finally understood. Friendship is not measured by the number of people who celebrate your success but by the few who remain when you have nothing to offer.

From that day forward, he stopped counting the people who smiled at him and started valuing those who stood by him during difficult times.

Moral of the Story:
Not everyone who smiles with you is your friend. True friends stay when the smiles fade, the harvest fails, and the basket is empty.
