KIDS STORY: Tortoise And Squirrel.

The sun had barely risen in the forest when Tortoise slowly dragged himself along the dusty path.

“Ah… another long day,” he muttered. “Slow legs, big heart… that’s all I have.”

Suddenly, a frantic voice echoed from above.

“Help! Somebody help me, please!”

Tortoise looked up. A Squirrel was trapped between two tight branches, her tiny body shaking.

“My leg… it’s stuck! I can’t move!” she cried.

Tortoise blinked slowly.

“Hmm… don’t worry, little one. I may be slow, but I don’t ignore cries for help.”

Squirrel looked down, desperate.

“You? But… you’re so slow! By the time you reach me—”

“Kindness doesn’t race,” Tortoise interrupted gently. “It arrives.”

Step by step… inch by inch… Tortoise climbed the small mound beneath the tree. It took time. Sweat rolled down his wrinkled face.

“Please hurry!” Squirrel whimpered.

“I’m coming… just hold on,” Tortoise said calmly.

Finally, he reached the branches. With careful effort, he pushed against the wood.

“Push with me!” he said.

“I… I’ll try!” Squirrel groaned.

Crack!

The branches loosened, and Squirrel fell—landing safely beside Tortoise.

“Oh! I’m free! I’m free!” she shouted, jumping around. Then she paused and looked at him.

“You… you saved me. Thank you so much!”

Tortoise smiled faintly.

“Today it is you. Tomorrow, who knows? The forest always remembers kindness.”

Squirrel nodded.

“I won’t forget this. Ever.”

Later that same day…

Dark clouds gathered. Thunder roared.

Tortoise was crossing a muddy path when suddenly—

SPLASH!

He slipped and rolled into a deep, water-filled ditch.

“Oh no… oh dear…” he groaned, struggling. “My shell is heavy… I can’t climb out…”

Rain began to pour heavily.

“Help… anyone?” Tortoise called weakly.

Just then, a familiar voice rang out.

“Tortoise! Hold on—I’m here!”

It was Squirrel.

“You!” Tortoise said, surprised. “But how—”

“No time!” Squirrel said quickly. “Grab that root beside you!”

“I… I can’t reach…”

“You can! Stretch!” she urged.

Tortoise stretched his neck, barely touching the root.

“Good! Don’t let go!” Squirrel shouted.

She ran swiftly across branches, tied long vines together, and dropped them down.

“Wrap this around your shell!”

“Are you sure it will hold?” Tortoise asked.

“It has to! I’m not losing my friend today!” Squirrel replied firmly.

With all her strength, Squirrel pulled and pulled.

“Come on! You saved me… now let me save you!”

Tortoise pushed with his legs.

“Almost… almost…”

With one final pull—

THUD!

Tortoise rolled out of the ditch onto safe ground.

They both lay there, breathing heavily as the rain slowed.

After a moment, Tortoise chuckled.

“Well… the forest remembered faster than I expected.”

Squirrel laughed too.

“You said kindness doesn’t race… but today it ran!”

Tortoise smiled warmly.

“And today, it returned.”

Squirrel looked at him with gratitude.

“From now on, we look out for each other.”

“Always,” Tortoise replied.
