Trump's Invasion: Now Whenever Christmas Comes, We Will Be Afraid That Someone May Use Religion To Attack Us - Gumi
Islamic scholar Sheik Ahmed Gumi has criticised former United States President Donald Trump over the attack on Sokoto State, saying his actions have turned a season meant for peace into fear for Nigerians.Speaking on the issue in an interview with Trust TV from 7:18, Sheik Gumi said Christmas is traditionally a period of peace and tranquility, but Trump’s actions have changed that reality and created widespread anxiety. He explained that Nigerians may now associate Christmas with fear, as religion could be used as a justification to carry out violent attacks. He added that attacking Sokoto State at that particular time was unnecessary, stressing that the state was not under any immediate threat of terrorism, noting that insurgents had already been pushed back to boundary areas. In Sheik Ahmed Gumi’s words: “Christmas is supposed to be a holiday of peace and tranquility. So now he has turned Christmas into agony for Nigerians. Now whenever Christmas comes, we’ll be afraid that somebody may use religion to come and attack us. So attacking Sokoto State at that particular moment when Sokoto itself is not under any threat of terrorism and the insurgents have been pushed back to the boundary—it’s uncalled for, really.”
