Biography of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a renowned Nigerian nationalist, lawyer, journalist, and statesman who played a major role in Nigeria’s political development. Born in 1909 in Ikenne, Ogun State, he was a strong advocate of federalism, education, and social welfare. As Premier of the Western Region, Awolowo introduced free primary education and improved healthcare and infrastructure. He founded the Action Group and later the Unity Party of Nigeria. Widely respected for integrity, discipline, and visionary leadership, Awolowo remains a symbol of progressive governance and intellectual courage in Nigeria. His ideas continue influencing policies, scholars, leaders, and citizens across generations today nationwide
