Overturned Truck Causes Major Gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

In the early hours of Friday, a fully loaded truck overturned on the Otedola Bridge, triggering severe traffic congestion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and stranding thousands of motorists for hours.

According to reports from The PUNCH, the gridlock extended from the Otedola Bridge to the Berger area, prompting drivers heading into Lagos to seek alternative routes.

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident via a Facebook post, noting that a secondary accident shortly after the initial crash exacerbated the disruption.

The police statement detailed: “Two serious accidents have occurred at Otedola Bridge, inward Lagos. In the first incident, a fully loaded truck overturned, spilling its consignments onto the road and covering about 90 per cent of the carriageway. The second accident occurred directly behind the first crash, compounding traffic disruption in the area.”

Authorities emphasized that emergency responders were dispatched to the scene to handle the situation and restore normal traffic flow. The post advised motorists to exercise caution in the vicinity.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq also corroborated the events in a phone interview with PUNCH Online, stating that LASTMA officers were on-site conducting rescue operations and managing traffic to alleviate the congestion.
