2027: S’South ADC leaders refute endorsing Amaechi’s presidential bid.
The South-South Zonal Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied reports that its national leader, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and other regional leaders have endorsed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi for the presidency. The zonal leadership described the reports as "misleading, undemocratic, and a troubling example of how selective narratives can distort political reality".
According to Mabel Oboh, South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary, the February 27 meeting at Oyegun's residence was aimed at strengthening internal cohesion, deepening grassroots mobilisation, and positioning the party for future electoral contests. Amaechi had informed regional leaders of his intention to seek the party's presidential ticket, but this was not an endorsement.
Oboh emphasized that no motion was moved, resolution adopted, or vote taken to endorse any aspirant, adding that Chief Oyegun's political history makes the allegation implausible. The ADC remains committed to internal democracy, with the power to nominate and elect candidates resting with constitutionally recognised organs of the party and its members.
