Tunji Disu to police officers: Nigerians are your bosses… era of impunity over.

Disu was decorated with a new rank on Wednesday, by President Bola Tinubu, at the presidential villa in Abuja.

On Tuesday, Tinubu appointed Disu, who previously held the rank of assistant inspector-general of police (AIG), as the acting IGP, following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.

Egbetokun cited “pressing family considerations” for his resignation, according to the presidency.

Speaking after the ceremony, the acting IGP said he will tell his officers that his administration would have zero tolerance for corruption.

He added that officers should understand that Nigerians are their bosses and that they can never succeed without cooperation from the public.

“I will let them know that the era of impunity is over. I will ensure that I train and encourage them to ensure they follow human rights,” he said.

“I will ensure that they know that I will try to follow a regime of zero tolerance to corruption, and most importantly, I’m going to drum it into them that we can never succeed without the cooperation of members of the public.

“I will mention that the country is facing a particular problem — the issue of banditry and insurgency. I know all police officers have been doing their best.

“They are hardworking people. All I need to do is to channel their morale and their thoughts to make things better.”

Disu said he almost shed tears when the president reeled out his successes as a police officer.
