Tinubu welcomes UK-backed Lebara’s launch in Nigeria, praises telecom growth.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the official launch of Lebara Nigeria, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in the country's digital economy and its future as a leading technology and investment destination in Africa. The President commended Lebara Nigeria's leadership, including CEO Teniola Stuffman, for their commitment to expanding telecom access, creating jobs, and strengthening Nigeria's digital infrastructure.
The telecommunications sector is a major economic driver, with a 5.78% year-on-year growth in Q3 2025 and an overall contribution of over 14% to the nation's GDP. President Tinubu emphasized that investments like Lebara Nigeria are critical to deepening financial inclusion, enabling innovation, and accelerating economic growth.
The President also acknowledged the presence and support of the British High Commission, represented by Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Johny Baxter, highlighting the enduring economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Lebara Nigeria aims to address persistent concerns among subscribers, including unreliable connectivity, high data costs, and unclear billing systems. The company plans to compete on affordability, reliability, and improved customer experience.
