Counter-terrorism: US military support not abnormal, says DHQ.

The Defence Headquarters has clarified that the military support provided by the United States government to Nigeria is not a threat to the country's sovereignty. The assistance, which includes training Nigerian troops and strengthening counter-terrorism operations, comes at no cost to the Federal Government.

According to Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, the US personnel in Nigeria are primarily engaged in training programs, similar to Nigerian officers traveling abroad for training. He emphasized that Nigeria's sovereignty and territorial integrity remain intact, and the collaboration is aimed at combating terrorism.

The cooperation has yielded positive outcomes in the last two months, with more results expected soon. The military leadership is taking necessary steps to prevent further attacks and is working to review the Operation Safe Corridor program for surrendered insurgents
