Virginia gov counters Trump’s state of the union claims
The Democrat, who flipped a Republican-held office last year, is hoping voters across the country will share that assessment when they head to the polls in November.
Spanberger takes on affordability message in Democratic response to Trump
Spanberger is arguing in her Democratic rebuttal that costs remain high for many Americans more than a year into his second term.
Her message, that families are still struggling under Trump’s policies, is one Democrats plan to carry nationwide ahead of the midterm elections.
Party leaders point to Spanberger’s double-digit victory in Virginia last November as validation of a disciplined, cost-focused campaign they now hope to replicate across the country.
Spanberger wrote on X on Wednesday morning, “The President’s reckless policies are making life more expensive for American families.
“Yet Republicans in Congress remain unwilling to stand up to him. The American people deserve better.”
The former CIA agent also slammed Trump as working against the American people.
“The scale of this President’s corruption is unprecedented.
“The cover-up of the Epstein files. Crypto scams. Cozying up to billionaires for ballrooms.
“It’s crystal clear: the President is working for himself — not the American people,” she noted.
She insisted that the Immigration need a proper fix.
“Tonight, the President told us that we are safer because unaccountable, poorly trained ICE agents are arresting mothers and detaining children.
“Our broken immigration system is something to be fixed — not an excuse to terrorize our communities,” Spanberger challenged.
“I am honored to serve as the 75th Governor of Virginia, she stated, concluding that, “It is with a profound sense of duty to all Virginians that I assume the Governorship and pledge myself to work tirelessly on behalf of our Commonwealth — our home.”
Meanwhile, a top Democratic senator also called US President Donald Trump’s record-length State of the Union speech “delusional” and said it failed to address the struggles of ordinary Americans.
“Americans have never seen a State of the Union so disconnected from reality. The president’s rhetoric and the country’s reality are worlds apart,” Senator Chuck Schumer said, adding that, “Donald Trump painted a delusional portrait of America that hardly any working American would recognize.”
