THE MOON THAT REFUSED TO SHINE.

Long ago, in a small village surrounded by forests and rivers, the Moon was known as the brightest light in the night sky. Every evening, people gathered outside their homes to admire its silver glow.

The Moon was proud of its beauty. It often boasted to the stars, saying, “Without me, the world would be lost in darkness.”

The stars said nothing, but they were saddened by the Moon's arrogance.

One night, an old woman walking home whispered, “The Moon shines brightly, but its light is not its own.”

The Moon overheard her and became furious.

“What do you mean?” it demanded.

“The Sun gives you your light,” the old woman replied. “You only reflect what you receive.”

The Moon refused to believe her. To prove its greatness, it decided it would no longer accept light from the Sun.

That evening, the Moon hid its face from the Sun and waited proudly for night to come.

But when darkness fell, the Moon had no light to give.

The sky became black, and travelers lost their way. Fishermen could not find the riverbanks. Children became frightened.

Ashamed, the Moon realized the old woman had spoken the truth. Its brightness came from the Sun, and there was no shame in receiving help.

The next day, the Moon apologized to the Sun and the stars. The Sun smiled and shared its light once more.

From then on, the Moon shone gently, never boasting again. And whenever it appears only as a thin crescent, elders say it is bowing its head in humility, remembering the lesson it learned long ago.

Moral: True greatness comes not from pride, but from recognizing and appreciating the help we receive from others.
